Exploring the Potential of LoRa Module

LoRa Module, short for Long Range is a technology developed by Semtech. It is a new wireless protocol designed for long-range, low-power communications. It is spread spectrum modulation technique that is derived from chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technology. 

LoRa devices enable IoT devices to create a smarter planet. It is preferred in IoT application since it is long range, low power consumption and secure data transmission. It can be integrated into existing infrastructure. It also enables low-cost battery-operated IoT applications.

The range is more than 10 km upto 20 km. Other factors such as the network and node-gateway positioning, surrounding environment (presence of physical obstacles), antenna performance, Tx power mode, etc.

Based on LoRa technology, LoRaWAN open specification is a low power, wide area networking (LPWAN) protocol. It is designed to wirelessly connect battery operated things to the Internet. This can be done in regional, national or global networks, and the LoRaWAN protocol leverages the unlicensed radio spectrum in the Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band.
